Emotions in all Types of Massage Therapy
With any of the various types of Massage Therapy, there is always an emotional element. Our bodies store our emotions. In particular muscles, or areas known as "triggerpoints", this emotional pattern becomes focused or centralized.
Some areas become "armored", where muscles band together to protect the area from further injury. This is especially common in accident victims, and even athletes, who have to endure
a very emotional healing process.
Occasionally, when these areas are worked on, it can be an emotional experience, as all that "stuff" that has been "in there for so long" is finally released,
and the body is gently and gradually brought back to balance.
A good therapist will be in tune with this process, and not react adversely if it does occur.
The body has its own innate ability to heal itself, massage is just one of the tools a client can have in his/her self care toolbox.
And the realization that everything is actually ok is part of the process too!
When you choose any of the types of Massage Therapy that may suit your goals, remember it's ok to feel whatever it is you are feeling at any given moment.

If you've had a bad day at the office, an argument with a friend, family member, etc. just honor that feeling while you are on the table, as it "soon shall pass",
as they say.
And give yourself some credit for taking that time for yourself! Give yourself a great big hug! You only have one body after all!
