Massage Therapy Licensure, What about continuing ed.?

The requirements for Massage Therapy Licensure in CT are as follows:
680 hours of total classroom training,
About 12-20 hours of extra "log hours" each semester to practice your skills. This can be done on friends, family etc., but may also be done as
an externship or as part of a clinical arrangement.
classes include: Anatomy/Physiology 1 and 2
Massage Therapy 1,2 and 3:
1: covers Swedish work, proper massage draping
2: deep tissue massage
3: Sports massage, recovery massage, other specialized techniques, such as cryotherapy, use of heat, etc.
Kinesiology, the study of movement (great class!)
Pathology, the study of contraindications to massage work
Palpation: the study of how to feel the musculature. This is an intro to Anatomy/Physiology.
Professional Foundations 1 and 2: studies Ethics, responsibilities of the therapist
Energetic foundations: studies Energy fields, relationships
Business Practices 1 and 2
Acupressure: the study of meridians in the body, derived from acupuncture, traditional chinese medecine. I found this to actually be the most challenging class,
believe it or not.
American Red cross SFA/CPR
There were also some workshop requirements as well as lots of clinical work and externship work while I was in school. This is done
in the last semesters. In all, do not expect to have any free time or a personal life whatsoever while you are in school, because
all your time, while not studying, will be spent in practice. This is especially challenging for those who work a 40 hour workweek, and/or
are trying to also balance a family life.
Massage Therapy Licensure Also requires successful passage of a National Certification (NCBTMB) exam score 75 or better.
This is usually taken a few months after graduation, but the therapist may work with a "temporary permit" while studying for this massage therapy licensure exam,
if they are working in a licensed, supervised setting.
I will also be posting a list and links of up and coming massage therapy CE classes on this page. CEU's are also required
for relicensure in CT. Currently the state requires 24 hours. If you wish to remain an AMTA member, it's 48 hours, only 6 hours of which can be
done online.
