Hartford Massage Therapy and ethics

Google

*Code of Ethics for Hartford Massage Therapy: I abide by all guidelines set by the NCBTMB, and will provide a copy of the code of ethics upon request. In the health care field, ethical considerations sometimes extend into business agreements, social settings, etc. I always try to keep an awareness of boundaries outside of the session. I always try to avoid what is termed in the health fields as a "dual relationship", be it personal, social, or businesslike in nature. To put it more simply, I do not have social, intimate, sexual, or business relationships with my clients. My job is to focus on solely your health and well being.

*Confidentiality; All information shared/exchanged in the session is kept strictly confidential. This includes medical information, as well as personal/business information, etc. I can be reached through email if you have any questions.

*Informed Consent: Sometimes it may be necessary to get a doctor's approval before performing a session. Again, this will be kept in full confidence by HIPAA code compliance. Therapeutic Massage has many wonderful health benefits, but is contraindicated in some cases. Some common examples are:

Infectious diseases/viruses,

Heart problems

Diabetes

Circulatory problems and blood clots

Cancer

Some forms of arthritis

Pregnancy (I do not specialize in this but some Connecticut Massage Therapists do. )

Injuries, surgeries

Major illnesses

Some types of medication.

*The good news: Frequently, we can adjust the methodology and "work around" some conditions with proper precautions. I do, however, in some cases, reserve the right to NOT proceed if I believe the work may not be beneficial to the client. You will be given a health intake form in advance of the session . Oftentimes, I'll mail it to you, just fill it out and bring it to the session. This makes the first session go a bit more smoothly. Thank you! Again, all this will be kept strictly confidential by law. Any questions, just email me here at Hartford Massage Therapy. Thank you!
