Hartford Massage Therapy: info on how to properly drape you during your session!

* Massage Draping procedures for Hartford Massage Therapy : The client will always be securely draped with a heavy flannel sheet specifically designed for massage work.
Only the specific area(s) being worked on will be uncovered. (previously worked-on area(s) will then be securely re-draped).
A blanket is often added for extra warmth and security. You will be instructed to get UNDER the top sheet/blanket. If you have questions, just
email me here at Hartford Massage Therapy.
*Disrobing: Please let me know what level of disrobing you feel comfortable with before we begin the first session.
Traditionally, clients who have been receiving Hartford Massage Therapy Therapeutic Massage work for a long time (especially the traditional Swedish Method),
are usually comfortable with being fully disrobed, but they are still always covered with a heavy flannel sheet, and specific areas
are undraped, worked on, then re-draped, in distinct "sections".
Breasts and genitalia are NEVER visible or accessible to the Massage therapist.
For example, When the client lies face down, (prone) the back is undraped, worked, then redraped. For example, If the legs are
worked, they are undraped, worked on, then re-draped one leg at a time.
For women (and men who don't need any pectoral work) who are lying face UP (supine), the breast area is always covered by the sheet,
which is anchored in place by the clients' arms. Legs can be worked also in supine position, the massage draping method is very secure, known as the
"diaper" drape method. Again, the genital area is well draped in this position as well. Many times, a blanket is added over the sheet.
Some clients come in for "sports" massage, and receive leg work while wearing bike shorts and a tee-shirt. This works very well for leg
massage,as it gives the therapist more options to perform specific deep massage and stretches, and saves some time.
Note: it is perfectly OK to leave on your pants or underwear if you just want a session on your mid to upper back. If you are suffering from
lower back pain, let me know, I will educate you about options with this. It has to do with a specific muscle called the Piriformis, which is deep
to the gluteals and best worked on without clothing in the hip region. We will talk about this beforehand. I get a lot of inquiries about sciatic
conditions, so this condition takes a bit more attention and education for the client. This condition can also be adressed with some clothing in that area.
Again, just email me here at Hartford Massage Therapy.
*Face Cradles: The function of a face cradle (at the head of the table) is to provide proper angular support of the head, so the neck muscles
are more relaxed, and thus more accessible. Please let me know if you don't like face cradles. Some people suffer from sinus problems.
Many people carry a lot of stress in the neck/shoulder area, so it's customary to begin the session face down, in the cradle.
Sometimes, about
midway through the session, I might give the client a "break" from the face cradle, and use the wonderful patented "body-pillow side lying position".
This is an absolutely wonderful way to continue the massage, and I get rave reviews on this positioning, which seems to be overlooked a lot for massage
in Hartford, CT.
